Victory Gardens

03 28th, 2009I don’t know if it is that I am now semi-retired and have more time on my hands or it may be that we could really be in another Great Depression, but I am planting a Victory Garden this year.
Victory Gardens were popular in both World War I and II and were grown in the US, Germany, Britain and Canada by everyday people to increase the food supply and to boost morale and enjoying the produce. Victory Gardens were to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs.
I live in the suburbs so I elected the square foot garden type that is built above ground in 4 feet by 4 feet plots. Then you add your soil mixture. It is very efficient. I got a used copy of the book by Mel Bartholomew on Ebay and it is an excellent reference for everything you need.
Also I purchased the heirloom seeds in the Victory Garden package via mail order. Heirloom seeds are non hybrids and are support to have good tasting produce like in the good old days before corporate farming.
The Victory Garden of today is fun and a small way to take control by growing your own.

Hang a Banker
Author: Independent-voter
03 28th, 2009The press is reporting some G20 protesters in London have adopted slogans such as “Hang a Banker” and “Storm the Banks,” organizers of the London march said they wanted a peaceful day.
I say a good way of personal protest is to switch over your account to a local credit union. Most credit unions did not and no not do investment banking and shaky loans. Mostly they loan only to their local members. Credit unions also pay higher interest rates on money markets and CDs. Keep your money working locally, do not give it to a New York Bankster.
Of coarse always check out the rating of any credit union before opening an account and keep your money under the insured amounts, currently $250,000 per account. Once you have your accounts in the credit union or credit unions, then take your money out of the bank.

Senator Chris Dodd Needs to GO
Author: Independent-voter
03 23rd, 2009
Speaking of voting out incumbents, Senator Chris Dodd needs to be voted out. He is head of the Senate Banking and Finance committee while this financial crises happened. To hear him now, he makes it sounds like he is a good guy trying to correct the problem. Where was he when the banks were going crazy?
I don’t think he is telling the truth about AIG and his amendment for AIG bonuses. Now we learn AIG employees have given Senator Dodd big contributions. This guy is at the heart of this financial mess and needs to be voted out. There has always been rumors about his reputation. Remember Mr. Dodd getting preferential treatment on this personal mortgage loans as a friend of Angelo Mozilo, Countrywide’s then-CEO.
Dodd needs to resign from the Senate. Votes should make sure he goes.
An independent may be variously defined as a voter who votes for candidates and issues rather than on the basis of a political ideology or partisanship, a voter who does not have long-standing loyalty to, or identification with, a political party. a voter who does not usually vote for the same political party from election to election; or a voter who self-describes as an independent
Obama Same As Bush
Author: Independent-voter
03 15th, 2009I made a mistake. Back at election time, at the last minute I said Obama was the anti incumbent candidate. That was a mistake. I should have stayed with Ron Paul, who I voted for in the primary.
Neither Democrats nor Republicans are worth voting for is you want real change, not just a slogan.
Now that Obama has a start, you can see by the people he has put in his cabinet and key positions, that things remain the same. His appointment of the same insiders who caused some of the problems is disturbing. Most disappointing is this same approach to big spending to cure the economic woes. His letting the Federal Reserve call the shots and the encouraging the American people to spend, spend, spend. It is like the whole system is a ponzi scheme that must keep going or it will fall apart and Obama is just the latest ring leader who gave people false hope for real change.
Is Timothy Geithner better or different than Hank Paulson? Not one bit. How about Lawrence Summers and others? Nope.
Obama promised to get us out of Iraq. But he seems insistence to start again in Afghanistan. Or in Pakistan and other places. Sounds like the industrial military movement is still strong.
What will it take to get a real third party established? What if the whole system really does collapse, will that do it? Stay tuned.
